Uncle Mo’s Toupie Wins Stormy Blues
It was a second stakes victory for Uncle Mo’s Toupie (3f Uncle Mo x Amertume, by Tapit) on Sunday when she won the Stormy Blues Stakes at Laurel Park.
The Graham Motion trainee went off as favorite in the 5 ½ furlong turf race and though she was first out of the gate, she quickly settled into fourth a few lengths behind the leader. Around the turn, Toupie started to advance through the field and after switching leads in the final furlong easily took over the lead.
She was happy to comply when Jorge Ruiz asked her to start pulling away, hitting the line 2 ¼ lengths in front of Parola Sicura.
It was the second win and fifth top three finish in six starts for the Wetheimere et Frere homebred out of Amertume. That mare is a Grade III-placed daughter of the two-time winning Honest Pursuit.
Honest Pursuit is a daughter of the Grade I winning Honest Lady, who also produced Grade I winner First Defence and three other stakes winners in her broodmare career. Honest Lady is also a half-sister to the Grade I winners Empire Maker, Chester House, and Chiselling.
