US Grade I for Together
Top class Irish filly Together (3f Galileo x Shadow Song, by Pennekamp) made a successful trip to the US capturing the Grade I Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland on the weekend.
The Aidan O’Brien trained filly settled off the pace for Colm O’Donoghue and charged to the line to win the 1 and 1/8th mile event by a length and a quarter.
“We expected her to run well,” said Kieran Murphy, assistant to trainer Aidan O’Brien.
“She was good all week. Everything went exactly as we planned it.”
As for plans to run her at the Breeders Cup meeting, Murphy added, “We’ll have to see how she comes out of this race, then we’ll a decision probably in the next day or two.”
Together was purchased for 280,000 guineas at the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale and is raced by Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith.
A three-quarter sister to Grade I winner Jan Vermeer from Shadow Song, Together has won three races and placed eight times from 16 starts and was deserving of her first Grade I victory having been runner-up in both the English and Irish One Thousand Guineas races earlier in the year.
