Venetian Harbor Adds to Munnings' Spectacular Year
Venetian Harbor (2f Munnings x Sounds Of The CIty, by Street Cry) added to her sire's spectacular year on Sunday when the filly romped to a 10 3/4 length maiden-breaking win at Santa Anita.
Impressive from the break, Venetian Harbor went straight to the lead and toyed with her competition early in the 6 1/2 furlong dirt race under Joel Rosario. The Richard Baltas trainee opened up a few lengths on the field by the time she entered the stretch and it didn't take more than a hand ride to extend that lead to 10 3/4 lengths over Uncle Mo's Princess Mo at the wire as the even money favorite.
Making her second career start for Ciaglia Racing, River Oak Farm, and Dominic Savides, Venetian Harbor was a $110,000 yearling purchase by Jesse Hoppel at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale before RNAing earlier this year for $205,000 at the OBS April 2-Year-Old Sale.
Bred by Colt's Neck Stable, Venetian Harbor is the second foal out of multiple stakes placed Sounds Of The City, who is a half-sister to Listed winner Pool Winner. The mare's third dam is two-time Grade I winner and successful broodmare Safely Kept.
Munnings has sired 29 juvenile winners in 2019, with eight juvenile stakes horses and four stakes winners led by Grade II winner Finite and Group II Queen Mary second Kimari.
