Viareggio Wins G3 Snow Fairy
It was a second stakes winner in two days for Caravaggio when Viareggio (3f Caravaggio x Just Joan, by Pour Moi) won the Group III Snow Fairy Fillies Stakes at the Curragh.
Racing over 1 1/8 miles, the Jessica Harrington trainee ran close behind the leaders for much of the race, biding her time. That time came down the stretch when she was asked to pick up the pace, taking the lead inside the final sixteenth.
She pulled away from there to win by 2 ¼ lengths and become the eighth stakes winner and fourth graded stakes winner for her sire.
Bred by Hawes Stud, Viareggio runs for Alpha Racing. She is out of a half-sister to stakes winner Tannaaf and multiple stakes placed Danjeu. Her second dam is a three-quarter sister to Group I winner Wannabe Grand, who is a stakes producer herself.
Viareggio’s dam Just Joan has a yearling colt by Footstepsinthesand and a weanling filly by the same sire.
Only hours after Viareggio’s win, the stallion had another international winner when Sarsons Risk won his second straight race by 1 ¾ lengths at Newmarket.
One of the top stallions in his class, Caravaggio has sired eight stakes winners, 14 stakes performers, and three graded stakes winners, led by Group I winner Tenebrism.
