Wake Surf Winner 21 for Classic Empire
Soon after he registered his 20th winner on Friday, Classic Empire also scored his 21st when Wake Surf (2c Classic Empire x Internal Affair, by Orientate) won a Gulfstream Park Maiden Special Weight on Saturday.
Damian Lynch’s colt put pressure on the pacemaker soon after the start in the 1 1/16 mile turf race and never let that one relax. He started his challenge late down the backstretch before ranging up outside the leader around the turn.
The duel continued down the stretch until his rival started to fade at the same time Wake Surf started to pull away from the field. A late run from another horse cut his lead down to a length at the end but it was more than enough to help Wake Surf graduate.
Trained by Rusty Arnold, the colt was bred by Royal Oak Farm out of Internal Affair. Internal Affair is also the dam of stakes winner Backdoor Kenny and stakes-placed Dinar in addition to the dam of stakes winner Eoma Emoa.
In the past 10 day, champion 2-year-old Classic Empire has sired five winners with the stallion having 21 winners overall.
