War Falcon 14th Winner For Air Force Blue
War Falcon (2f Air Force Blue x Azha, by Tapit) became the 14th winner for her sire on Friday evening with a maiden win at Fair Grounds.
Racing over a mile on the dirt, the filly was right behind the leader from the time they broke from the gate. Pouring pressure on with just over three furlongs left to run, War Falcon steadily cut down on the lead as they raced toward the stretch and entered a duel to the finish.
War Falcon wasn’t willing to give up, continuing to dig in and taking the advantage inside the final sixteenth to win by half a length as the second choice.
Owned by Trojan Thoroughbreds, the Alexander-Groves Thoroughbreds-bred was making her second career start for trainer Brad Cox.
War Falcon is a half-sister to the stakes placed King Dilly and the winning Munnings filly Majic Flash. Their dam Azha is a granddaughter of multiple Grade I winner Althea, who is the matriarch of a family that includes Grade I winners Balletto, Acoma, and Arch in addition to 2019 Champion 3-Year-Old Filly and Female Sprinter Covfefe.
A top five freshman sire by winners, European Champion 2-Year-Old Air Force Blue is also the sire of the stakes-placed Chief Little Hawk and Take Profit.
