Warrior’s Charge Wins Razorback for On-Fire Munnings
Warrior’s Charge (4c Munnings x Battling Brook, by Broken Vow) continued an exciting 2020 for Munnings on Monday when winning the Grade III Razorback Handicap to become his fifth stakes winner of the year.
Warrior’s Charge was hustled out of the gate in the 1 1/16 mile race and took the lead almost immediately. He galloped about a length in front of the field until they hit the stretch when challenged for the lead but made it clear he wasn't done yet. Warrior’s Charge had to dig in deep but wasn’t going to let Bankit get past him, always keeping his head in front.
Warrior’s Charge never lost a call and finished a head in front with Florent Geroux aboard in the colt’s second start since finishing a good fourth in last year’s Grade I Preakness Stakes.
“The horse came out on top and I’m very proud of him,” trainer Brad Cox said. “He’s been training well and showed up today. Without a doubt, we’ll keep him here and look at the Essex Handicap (March 14) and Oaklawn Handicap (April 18) for his next start.”
Trained by Cox for Ten Strike Racing and Madeket Stables, Warrior’s Charge has won four of his eight starts, including four of his last five. Bred by Al Shaquab Racing, he is the first foal out of Listed-placed Battling Brook, who returned to Munnings in 2019.
Munnings has had an excellent 2020 with five stakes winners and eight stakes horses in the first month and a half of the year, including top Grade I Kentucky Oaks hopes and Grade II winners Finite and Venetian Harbor.
