Well-Bred Justify Juveniles Set for OBS Spring
Justify’s first crop impressed in the OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale Under Tack Sale last week and 12 are now set to go through the ring April 19 through 22.
His first through the ring was also one of his four to breeze in :10.0 with Hidden Brook consigning Hip 11. Bred by Bonne Chance Farm in Kentucky, the colt out of stakes-placed Unbound is a half-brother to three winners from four to race. Unbound herself is a full sister to the stakes-placed Mary Rita and a granddaughter of the undefeated champion Personal Ensign.
Those under Personal Ensign include her Breeders’ Cup winning daughter and granddaughter My Flag and Storm Flag Flying and Grade I winners Miner’s Mark, Traditionally, Mr. Speaker, Seeking the Soul, etc.
The Winstar Farm-bred Hip 166 is consigned by Eddie Woods and out of a stakes winning Midshipman mare whose only foal to race is a winner. This colt’s dam Battle Girl is also a half-sister to the three-time Grade I winner Sweet Reason, who has produced the Grade III-placed Diastima, with Grade III winner and Grade I-placed Don’t Forget Gil also a half-sister to the duo.
In all, the colt’s stakes-placed second dam has produced five stakes performers and two stakes producers. One of those stakes producers has five winners from six runners, including Grade I Dubai Golden Shaheen winner Zenden.
Breezing a quarter in :21.0 is Hip 688, out of the stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed Look At Me. A full sister to the multiple graded stakes winning Francis of Assisi, Look At Me also produced the stakes winning Kind of Magic as the latest stakes producer in a long line of top broodmares.
Bred by Don Alberto, the chestnut colt consigned by Whitman Sales also sees the Group II winner and multiple Group I-placed Cliffs of Moher on his page under one of his dam’s half-sisters. A classic-placed runner herself, the colt’s second dam is also a full sister to the classic winning Henrythenavigator.
It’s another trip through the ring for Hip 789, a half-sister to champion Points Offthebench, Grade III winner Bench Points, and stakes winner Molto Allegro. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, the filly was bred by Town and Country Horse Farms and Frank and Kim Taylor and was a $235,000 RNA as a weanling before selling at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. The filly was ready to show off her breezing talent at last week’s show, stopping the clock in :10.0.
Another well-bred :10.0 breezer is four-time Grade I winner Princess of Sylmar’s 2-year-old half-sister, Hip 1110. Consigned by Scanlon Training and Sales, the chestnut filly was bred by Barronstown Stud and RNAed for $370,000 and $325,000 in her two trips through the ring. The filly is also a half-sister to stakes-placed Biblical with their stakes-placed dam Storm Dixie a half-sister to stakes winner Rhythm Band, Grade III-placed Musical, and the dam of Canadian champion Youcan’tcatchme.
Hip 1139 saw an update on April 2 when her Uncle Mo half-sister Family Way won the Grade III Orchid Stakes – her fourth top three placing at the stakes level. Breezing a quarter in :21.1, the Wavertree Stables consignee has many connections to the Ashford stallion barn as a half-sister to American Pharoah’s winning Baby Blythe as well as being out of a Giant’s Causeway half-sister to Group I winner Caravaggio.
The filly’s second dam is the stakes winning Mekko Hokte, who also produced the Grade II winner and stakes producer My Jen.
Justify’s final through the ring is a son of the Grade I-winning Together, who has already produced two stakes performers in Group II-placed Earring and stakes-placed Battle of Jericho. Bred by Orpendae, Chelston, and Wynatt and consigned by S G V Thoroughbreds as Hip 1201, the colt is a half-brother to four winners from seven to race out of his dam and has stakes form throughout the page. Together is a three-quarter sister to the Group I-winning Jan Vermeer and stakes-performer Terrific in addition to the dam of stakes winner Cloud Surfing.
The OBS Spring Sale kicks off on Tuesday April 19 at 10:30 a.m. ET and takes place through Friday with Justify’s last offering going through the ring in the final 30 hips of the sale.
