West Sider Latest Impressive Winner for Uncle Mo

Uncle Mo’s 3-year-olds continued to impress on Sunday when West Sider (3c Uncle Mo x Vied, by Elusive Quality) won on debut at Santa Anita Park.

Racing over seven furlongs on the dirt for Gary and Mary West, West Sider raced a few paths off the rail and was content to stay a few lengths behind the dueling leaders. The big colt was relaxed under jockey Drayden Van Dyke and steadily picked up the pace around the far turn until he was right behind the leaders at the top of the stretch.

The leaders had no chance to react as West Sider flew by them to claim the lead and drew off to win by 2 1/2 lengths. The Bob Baffert-trainee was a $200,000 Keeneland September purchase by Ben Glass from Castle Park Farm.

Bred by Clodagh McStay, West Sider is the second foal from Vied. Served by American Pharoah in 2019, Vied is a half-sister to Grade I winners Overanalyze and Meadow Breeze and Grade I-placed Majesto.

Uncle Mo runners out of Elusive Quality daughters have produced six winners from seven runners, including Grade I winner Gomo and Grade III winner Lost Raven.

The sire of 53 stakes winners and 28 graded stakes winners, Uncle Mo’s current 3-year-old crop includes 28 winners led by three-time Grade I winner and Eclipse Champion 2-Year-Old Filly finalist Bast and three other stakes horses.
