Starspangledbanner ex Glowing Star yearling colt

£140,000 x2 for Starspangledbanner yearlings at Doncaster

Day two of the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale in Doncaster on Wednesday was lit up by a pair of youngsters by Starspangledbanner who each made £140,000.

First up was a half-brother to Listed winner Melbourne Memories bred by Roger and Matt Coleman and offered from Tally-Ho Stud.

Agent Armando Duarte struck the successful bid and said: "He was the horse of the sale for me. Sometimes you get a feeling about a horse and he was the one I really wanted - he has a lot of class and I love the stallion. He's an absolutely beautiful horse.

"It was a little more than we wanted to pay but I told my client that this is the horse I wanted to buy and sometimes for those nice horses, you have to pay a little bit more.”

Later, a colt out of the Clodovil mare Glowing Star was sold to Cormac McCormack for £140,000 when offered from Anna Sundstrom’s Coulonces Sales. The grey (pictured) had been bought by Sundstrom for €78,000 as a foal at Goffs.

“We bred Home Of The Brave so I have always loved Starspangledbanner. I bought two last year and the other is selling at Goffs Orby,” said Sundstrom. “I was so nervous, he was the most beautiful foal.”
