$510,000 for Starspangledbanner Colt
Starspangledbanner has become a great favourite with Hong Kong investors thanks to Beauty Eternal and California Spangle so it was no surprise to see a stunning colt from Nuclear Force make $510,000 at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale when purchased by HK based Solari Bloodstock.
Bred by Victorian breeder Kevan Wacey of Gleneagles Stud, the colt is a three-quarter brother to Group III winner Defcon and was offered in the draft of Shadow Hill Thoroughbreds.
He is the seventh and final foal from Nuclear Dance, who died in 2022 and her six foals to race are all winners.
“He is very special to us. The mare died giving birth and we had to get a foster mother and we didn’t want to raise him alone. We are at Yarra Glen with 130 acres and we didn’t want to raise him by himself, so we needed a paddock mate,” Kevan Wacey said.
He purchased a couple of weanlings to keep the orphan colt company and one of them was the Justify colt from Kitty Leroy that sold for $500,000.
