New Juvenile Stakes Winner for Wootton Bassett
With some of his first Australian bred weanlings set to go under the hammer at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale this week, Wootton Bassett posted a new juvenile stakes-winner overnight in France.
A homebred for Al Shaqab Racing, two-year-old filly Balsam (2f Wootton Bassett x Bea Remembered, by Doyen) was second at her first two starts and took valuable race experience into this five furlong scamper to forge clear and win the Listed Prix des Reves d'Or Jacques Bouchara at Vichy by three-quarters of a length.
Trained by Henri-Francois Devin, Balsam overpowered the short priced favourite Les Pavots (2f No Nay Never x Sparrow, by Oasis Dream) who was coming off an impressive debut victory.
Balsam is a half-sister to multiple Group winner Stormy Antarctic and Group II placed Al Johrah being the sixth winner from Group III placed Bea Remembered.
Balsam is the 32nd stakes-winner for Wootton Bassett, who returns to Australia this spring at a fee of $93,500.
