Metro Double for Choisir

Choisir featured on Friday with a two state metropolitan double with the Grahame Begg trained three year-old Mac Chois (3g Choisir x Cardsino, by Final Card) beating older horses at Randwick and last season’s stakes-winning juvenile filly Psychologist (3f Choisir x Miss Conception, by Danzero) resuming to win at Moonee Valley. Off the scene since finishing down the track in the Group II STC Magic Night Stakes last year, the Tony Vasil trained Psychologist returned to her best to score a strong finishing win in the Ratings 89 event over 1000 metres. She was ridden by Mark Zahra, who partnered the filly in her debut win in the Group III MRC Blue Diamond Prelude last year. “It was good to see her relax so well as she’s quite a headstrong filly, but that was a very good effort,” said Zahra. A winner of two of her five starts to date, Psychologist was purchased by her Hong Kong based owner Raymond Ngai for $120,000 from the draft of Bylong Park Thoroughbreds at the 2009 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale Part Two. Bred by Bylong Park, she is the second foal and second winner for the unraced Danzero mare Miss Conception, whose first foal Big Tony was a handy juvenile in Brisbane. Psychologist earned a place in history last season when she became the very first stakes-winner anywhere in the world to carry a double cross of champion sire Danehill. Promising gelding Mac Chois will be headed for Black Type company after resuming from a break to win the 1100 metre welter at Randwick. Retained to race by his breeders, Mac Chois is the third winner for the Final Card mare Cardsino, a daughter of stakes-winner Balm in Gilead from the family of Singapore sprint star Why Be. With two wins and three placings from five starts and prizemoney of $75,530, Mac Chois will be worth following into better company. Choisir has 22 yearlings entered for the Inglis Premier Sale starting on Monday, the same sale that produced his multiple Group I winning son Starspangledbanner.
