Starspangledbanner Debut 2YO Stakes-Winner

The Listed SAJC Dequetteville Stakes (1000m) at Morphettville on Saturday was supposed to mark the winning return of spring Group winning filly Karavas, but she came up short against exciting filly Lincolnshire (2f Starspangledbanner x Furnival, by Street Cry), who led for home on debut and couldn’t be caught.

Trained by Peter Moody and Katherine Coleman, who were basking in Group I glory after Chain of Lightning’s win in the Group I ATC TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick, Lincolnshire showed ability in a recent jump out at Pakenham and ran up to that form on race day.

She was fast and professional for Carleen Hefel and kicked on well to win by half a length.

“She’s a big rangy filly and knows her job,” said Carleen Hefel.

“She was very relaxed around at the gates, although she stepped away a little slowly, but she’s so big she musters speed very quickly. She went from slow out to on the bridle in a matter of strides.”

A homebred for Rosemont Stud, Lincolnshire is a half-sister to stakes-placed Rampant Lion.

She is now the best of four winners from four foals to race from imported Furnival, an unraced Godolphin bred half-sister by Street Cry to stakes-winner Varda and to the dam of Group I winner Kementari and stakes-winner Telperion from Group II winner Wild Queen.

Lincolnshire is the 39th stakes-winner for Starspangledbanner, who covered 116 mares in Australia at last spring.
