£250,000 Flemensfirth bumper winner stars in Cheltenham Sale
Runaway Leopardstown bumper winner Moyle Park (5g Flemensfirth-Lovely Present, by Presenting) stole the show at Brightwells’ sale at Cheltenham on Saturday night when selling for £250,000.
The Flemensfirth gelding won a competitive bumper at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting by four lengths on his only start for trainer Harry Kelly and is returning to Ireland in new ownership.
Harold Kirk, taking instructions by telephone from trainer Willie Mullins, eventually landed the prized lot after seeing off Anthony Bromley of Highflyer Bloodstock.
“He won his bumper very well and is a fabulous athlete, but I would think he would have one more run and then be put away until next season. He’s not over-big but I would hope that he will make a top hurdler,” Kirk told EBN.
Moyle Park, who was bred by Kevin Geraghty, showed a colossal profit on the €10,000 euros he had made when going through the Goffs Land Rover Sale in June.
Flemensfirth had been in the headlines earlier on Saturday when siring the winners of Leopardstown’s two big handicaps.
The Terence O’Brien-trained Farrells Fancy (9g Flemensfirth-Beir Bua Ardross, by Classic Secret), bred by A Gough Mooney, is heading towards the Pulteney Land Investments Novices’ Handicap Chase at the Cheltenham Festival after winning the €75,000 Grade A Leopardstown Handicap Chase.
Meanwhile, Willie Mullins has his eyes on the Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival after Abbey Lane (8g Flemensfirth-Hazel Sylph, by Executive Perk), bred by Robert McCarthy, won the €100,000 Boylesports.com Hurdle.
