€365,000 Milan 3yo is record-breaker

A three-year-old son of Milan shattered the record-price for a store at Fairyhouse on Thursday when selling for €365,000 on the final day of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale.

A three-parts brother to the brilliant two-mile chaser Altior (by High Chaparral), he had been heavily touted before the sale and did not disappoint when eventually knocked down to Aiden Murphy, who had seen off Mags O’Toole.

“He’s been bought for M V Magnier,” said Murphy. “This horse is an exceptional individual by one of the leading National Hunt sires and M V has been keen to support the National Hunt market here for the last couple of days. The mare has already proved herself to be an excellent producer and hopefully this horse will match some of his sibling’s exploits.”

Bred by Tom Behan, the record-breaker landed a great pinhooking touch for John Dwan, who had bought the son of Milan as a foal for €40,000.

Meanwhile, M V Magnier also bought the top-priced filly in the sale, a daughter of Flemensfirth out of the black-type Milan mare Lonesome Dove who realised €140,000. She was bred by Cathal Mariga.
