4YO Maiden Winner Continues Bright Start For Ocovango
Percy Warner (4g Ocovango - Fugal Maid, by Winged Love) displayed a game attitude to win the first division of the Four-Year-Old Maiden at Umma House on Sunday.
Fresh from partnering Get A Tonic (Getaway) to success in the opener, Jamie Codd rode Percy Warner to chase the leader, with his mount recovering from a blunder at the eighth to regain his position five from home. Improving to lead at the second last, the Gordon Elliott-trained bay kept on well to win by four lengths from Bold Getaway (Getaway), who drew eight lengths clear of the field.
Bred by Robert McCarthy, Percy Warner hails from the first crop of Beeches Stud sire Ocovango. A top three-year-old by leading NH influence Monsun, Ocovango has made a bright start at stud with the likes of Langer Dan - a winner of his first two starts, including in the Listed Juvenile Hurdle at Wetherby, while Glenglass won a Four-Year-Old maiden at Tallow for Colin Bowe, before selling for £155,000 to Gordon Elliott and Aidan O’Ryan.
