9-length G3 success for Flemensfirth mare
Gutsy mare Knockfierna (7m Flemensfirth-Garden Town, by Un Desperado) bagged her fifth Graded victory at Limerick on Sunday when impressively beating 11 rivals in the G3 ITBA Fillies Scheme EBF Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase.
The Karina Healy-bred daughter of Flemensfirth had won in G3 company at Thurles on her previous start and was sent off an odds-on favourite to win Sunday’s 2m 6f contest by nine lengths.
"She’s a hell of a mare," trainer Charles Byrnes told www.irishracing.com. "The form of her run here at Christmas (when she ran out at the second last when travelling well) has worked out really well with Sir Des Champs winning at Cheltenham and Four Commanders also running well.
"I have no regrets about not bringing her to Cheltenham. This was a nice pot and after Christmas this was the plan. She might have one more run this season but I don’t have any definite plans yet."
