Pricey store purchase Go To War (4g Soldier Of Fortune - Rate Of Knots, by Saddlers’ Hall) shaped like a smart prospect when making a winning debut in Friday’s bumper at Uttoxeter.

Bought by Aidan and Bobby O’Ryan for €100,000 last year, the son of Soldier of Fortune was well-supported for Friday’s two mile contest. Held up at the back of the field by Paddy Brennan, he was forced wide on the turn for home, before improving to lead approaching the final furlong. Keeping on well, he was pushed out to beat the favourite Fingle Bridge (Flemensfirth) by two and a quarter lengths.

Owned by Grant Leon, Go To War was bred by Grove View Stud and is a half-brother to useful hurdler Flight Deck (Getaway).
