Bigger Things Ahead Of Exciting Son Of Yeats

The Martin Brassil-trained Longhouse Poet (5g Yeats - Moscow Madame, by Moscow Society) is destined for a step up in class after justifying favoritism in Saturday’s Maiden Hurdle at Navan.

Bought privately after winning his point-to-point for Sam Curling, he went on to win a bumper for Sean and Bernardine Mulryan in May and returned to finish a close second to hot favourite Elixir D’ainay last month, the pair finishing clear of the field.

Derek O’Connor, who rode the bay to his two previous victories, took the ride on Saturday and positioned him behind the leaders, travelling well to lead three from home. Quickening to extend his advantage approaching the final flight, he won with ease as his rivals did their best to narrow the gap.

Speaking after the race, Brassil commented, “I don't have any plan with him but he could get an entry for the Grade 1 Lawlor's Of Naas Novice Hurdle in January. Derek seems to be quite impressed with him anyway, he's never got beaten on him. He felt he's a horse to look forward to, maybe for bigger and better days. ”
