Black type chasing win for Westerner’s daughter Katkovana

Katkovana (3f Westerner-Kakira, by Cadoudal) gave Westerner a black-type win with his first jumping runner when she scored over hurdles in May and the filly landed a Listed success on her chasing debut this week. Trained by Jean-Paul Gallorini for the Comte de Montesson, the beautifully-connected filly won the 85,000 euro Listed Prix Roger De Minvielle at Enghien-Soisy by 10 lengths when having her first start over fences.

Katkovana, who was bred by Haras de Coudraies, is a sibling to several black-type jumping performers including the G1 winner Kotkita and she looks set to carry on the family tradition.

“She comes from a great family, and I'm merely exploiting the potential,” Gallorini told Paris Turf. “I must thank the Comte de Montesson for entrusting me with her. We could have sent her chasing earlier but we waited for the G3 Prix Bournosienne (over hurdles at Auteuil on November 6), when she was beaten only a nose. But her future is over the bigger obstacles, and you’ll see her again in new year over fences.”
