More black-type for Soldier Of Fortune mare
Slowmotion (5m Soldier Of Fortune-Second Emotion, by Medaaly), a G2 winner over hurdles last season, added to her impressive CV on Saturday when winning the Listed BBA Ireland Opera Hat Mares Chase at Naas.
It was only a third start over fences for the Soldier Of Fortune mare, trained for J P McManus by Joseph O’Brien, and she could now step up in class to look for more graded success after this victory under Mark Walsh.
“I got good jumps at the last two and she galloped all the way to the line,” said Walsh. “She’s only five and will have to step up in grade so we’ll see where we go from here.”
O’Brien added: “Mark gave her a peach and let her find her feet early. She’s tough and she stays and even though the trip was on the short side, she stuck at it well.
“It’s nice to win another stakes race with her and we’ll see how she comes out of it and speak to Frank (Berry) and J P. She looks like she’ll get further.”
