Black Type Soldier Of Fortune Mare Gains Maiden Hurdle Win
Friday saw black-type performer Fortuna Ligna (6m Soldier of Fortune - Quiet Thought, by Bob Back) gain a well-deserved win in the Mares’ Maiden Hurdle at Chepstow.
The Anthony Honeyball-trained mare finished third to a talented pair in a Listed Mares’ Bumper at Cheltenham in November and had since shown promise over hurdles, including when most recently finishing fourth in a Grade 2 at Newbury. Sent off favourite on Friday, she made most of the running under Harry Cobden and was ridden from the third last. Headed at the final flight, she dug deep to regain the advantage and kept on well to lead by a neck on the line.
Bred by Ms C Corrigan and Tom Conway, Fortuna Ligna carries the colours of the Owners For Owners group.
