Mirazur West (Westerner) Wins The Maiden Hurdle At Fairyhouse

Brother To Ferny Hollow Eases Clear In Maiden Hurdle

Supreme Novices’ Hurdle hopeful Mirazur West (6g Westerner – Mirazur, by Good Thyne) showed his class when justifying favouritism in the two mile maiden hurdle at Fairyhouse on Wednesday.

The son of Westerner impressed when making all on rules debut last season and returned to make his hurdle bow at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival, where he finished second to Grade 1 performer King Of Kingfield (Vadamos). Reunited with Mark Walsh at Fairyhouse, Willie Mullins’ representative led from flag-fall and looked the likely winner from two out. Drawing further clear all the while, he went on to score by 11 lengths from a strung-out field.

The performance saw the JP McManus-owned winner maintain his price of 14/1 for his likely target at Cheltenham. The son of Westerner was purchased privately following his sole start for Ellmarie Holden, having previously fetched €160,000 at the store sales. Bred by Kenneth Parkhill, he is a full-brother to dual Grade 1 winner and stablemate Ferny Hollow (Westerner).
