Buyers Dig Deep For Son Of Ocovango
Ocovango’s strong start at stud was reflected in the Tattersalls Cheltenham sales ring on Friday, when the Colin Bowe-trained Glenglass (4g Ocovango - Funny Times, by Silver Patriarch) sold to Aidan O’Ryan and Gordon Elliott for £155,000.
Bowe was full of praise after his charge won the Four-Year-Old Maiden at Tallow, saying, “He's a horse with tonnes of raw ability and he showed a nice will to win there.”
Bloodstock agent Aidan O’Ryan clearly felt the same and after signing the docket, he said, “"He's a lovely horse who probably shouldn't have been able to do what he did around a tightish track given his size. He's a horse for next year, obviously, he'll be a proper chaser in time. There's no need to rush him, he's already proved he's got an engine, and with a summer at grass he should be a lovely horse.”
Ocovango’s impressive start at stud was another factor for O’Ryan, who added, “The stallion seems to be doing well too, everyone who has one seems to like them so he's got every chance. We've got a couple of four-year-olds by him we like.”
The Beech Stud sire’s first crop also includes Langer Dan, a Listed winner over hurdles, and La Shaba, a three-time winner on the flat. Ocovango commands €4,500 this season.
