Camelot’s Luxembourg Gains Fourth Group 1 Win In Coronation Cup
Luxembourg (5h Camelot – Attire, by Danehill Dancer) was back to his brilliant best when recording his fourth Group 1 win in the Coronation Cup at Epsom.
Ryan Moore rode Aidan O’Brien’s charge to make all on his return to a mile and a half and began to pick up the pace from over three furlongs out. The son of Camelot held a clear advantage approaching the final furlong and was ridden out to score by a length, with another six lengths back to the third horse.
“He's been a great horse,” Moore said. “He's been a very consistent horse his whole life and has now been a Group 1 winner at two, three, four and five. Not many horses can do that.”
O’Brien nominated the King George VI Stakes as a key target for Luxembourg, whilst bookmakers shortened his price to 4/1 for the Coral Eclipse. As eluded to by Moore, Luxembourg added to an already impressive CV of six Group wins and four places at the highest level. Bred by BV Sangster, MV Magnier’s 150,000gns yearling buy is owned by Coolmore partners with Westerberg. His three-year-old full-sister Vanilla (Camelot) is yet to be unveiled, but holds entries in a host of Group 1 contests.
