Cheltenham black-type win for Flemensfirth
The Fergal O’Brien-trained Poetic Rhythm (5g Flemensfirth-Sommer Sonnet, by Taipan) captured Cheltenham’s competitive Listed bumper on Sunday.
The Flemensfirth gelding, a winning point-to-pointer, headed to Cheltenham on the back of a seven-length bumper victory at Chepstow in October.
This latest win was not a surprise to O’Brien, who said:"We really were hopeful coming here after Chepstow, and when Paddy (Brennan) won on him there, the first thing he said was, 'we'll go to Cheltenham with this'. We gave him a break, freshened him up and then came here.
“He's beat a better group of horses than he did at Chepstow and the one thing he does do is battle. He's tough and when you want him to go, he does. He's just such a lovely horse to have; he trains himself. I wouldn't mind having another 20 like him.”
Brennan added: "All credit to the horse, he's very tough and he did it very well. He does everything right. He still had a bit in the locker and I took a while pulling him up in the end.”
Poetic Rhythm was bred in Ireland by Vincent Finn.
