Classic Getaway Not For Catching In Listed Feature
An exciting season lies ahead of Classic Getaway (7g Getaway - Classic Magic, by Classic Cliché) after running out a smart winner of Wednesday’s feature Listed Chase at Thurles.
The Willie Mullins-trained gelding beat a Grade 1 winner on his chase debut last season, but suffered a setback before finishing fourth in a Grade 1 in April. Dropping back to two miles and six furlongs on his seasonal return, he made all of the running under Danny Mullins and was travelling best of the field after the second last. Ridden briefly at the next, he kept on strongly on the run-in to beat the Grade 1 placed favourite Haut En Couleurs by five and a half lengths.
“Classic Getaway had some very good form last year,” the winning rider said. “We were hoping he could do something like that. His jumping was so good and he is very agile for a horse of his size.”
Classic Getaway emerged as an exciting prospect as a four-year-old when impressing on debut for Donnchadh Doyle and subsequently sold for £570,000. He bolted up in a bumper on his first start for Mullins and Cheveley Park Stud and later won a maiden hurdle in fine style. The son of Grange Stud sire Getaway was bred by Daniel Fogarty.
