Classy Soldier Of Fortune Gelding Doubles Up Over Hurdles
Favour And Fortune (5g Soldier Of Fortune - Fleur Rose, by Flemensfirth) followed up last month’s impressive hurdle debut with another smart performance at Wetherby on Saturday.
Alan King’s charge shaped like a smart prospect when winning his first two starts in bumpers last season and returned with a 13 length win on his hurdle bow. He was sent off favourite for the Class 2 Introductory Hurdle and raced prominently throughout the two mile contest under Tom Cannon. He was travelling best when challenging at the third last and led at the last, before being ridden out on the run-in to score by three lengths.
“He's a nice horse,” the winning rider said. “It probably did him the world of good today as he had to go through softer ground and grind it out on his own up the straight.”
The son of Soldier Of Fortune is owned by Hemmings Racing and was bred by Ballymorisheen Stables.
