Coolmore NH Sire Success Transfers To Cheltenham Sales Ring

Thursday evening’s Tattersalls Cheltenham Festival Sale capped a wonderful day for the late Oscar, who provided the £300,000 top lot in Killer Kane (5g Oscar – Native Idea, by Be My Native).

Offered by Donnchadh Doyle’s Monbeg Stables, the bay was fresh from making a winning debut in Saturday’s Five-Year-Old Geldings Maiden at Ballycahane. That performance attracted the attentions of Noel Meade and Aidan O’Ryan in the sales ring, but both were forced to admit defeat to leading buyers Ross Doyle and Colin Tizzard.

After signing the docket, Doyle commented, “Myself, Colin and Joe all thought he put up a special performance at the weekend. They’ve done very well with the progeny of Oscar over the years. We’ve bought him for established clients at the yard.”

Bred by S. McElroy, Killer Kane is a half-brother to multiple Grade 1 winner Go Native and was purchased as a store by Monbeg Stables for €70,000.

Doyle and Tizzard were also the successful buyers of Amarillo Sky (4g Westerner – Bag Of Tricks, by Flemensfirth), after outbidding Henry de Bromhead at £280,000. The result added to an incredible week for Colin Bowe, who was instrumental in the early careers of three of this week’s Grade 1 winners, including Champion Bumper victor Ferny Hollow (Westerner).

On his latest acquisition, Ross Doyle said, “Colin has an unbelievable record and he’s a very straight-talking fellow. He has a great eye for a horse and he is a very good trainer, so he’s a good man to buy from. This horse showed cruising speed, he’s by a very good sire in Westerner and the physical matched up.”

Amarillo Sky was bred by Mrs Amy Collins and is the first foal out of his dam, an unraced full-sister to useful chaser Beg To Differ (Flemensfirth).
