Coolmore NH Sires Lead The Way At Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale

The demand for progeny of Coolmore NH sires continued on the second and final day of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale, with a son of Yeats proving popular early on, as he drew €150,000 from Highflyer Bloodstock.

Catalogued as Lot 238 from Springhill Stud, he provided an impressive return on his foal price of €19,000. Highflyer’s Antony Bromley did the bidding and later commented, “We loved him, he's gorgeous and a very athletic horse.” Bromley stood alongside Nicky Henderson, who added, “I like Yeats, we've been having a good time with his progeny, we bought two at the Land Rover Sale as well.”

An even more impressive pinhooking result came courtesy of Lot 415, a daughter of Getaway who was bought by Pat Kinsella as a foal for €1,800. She since benefitted from an update when her half-brother Kildisart scored at Grade 3 level, while her full-brother The Big Breakaway (Getaway) topped the Goffs Punchestown Sale at €360,000 after his maiden point success.

These exploits saw her value rise to €125,000, making her the highest-priced filly of the entire sale, with the winning bid landed by Mags O’Toole. On his prize sale, Pat Kinsella said, “We knew she was going to make big money, maybe €100,000, because she's a top-class filly.”

Unsurprisingly, the progeny of leading sire Flemensfirth proved very popular with buyers, pushing Colin Tizzard and Peter and Ross Doyle to give €110,000 for Lot 345, a son of the Beeches Stud resident offered by Rathturtin Stud.

The bay boasted a proven pedigree, bring a full-brother to Grade 2 performer Killer Miller (Flemensfirth), while their dam is a full-sister to Graded winners Cane Brake and Judge Roy Bean.

Aiden Murphy was busy over the two days and secured Lot 346, a son of Westerner from Liss House, for €90,000. A full-brother to dual Listed winner Ribble Valley (Westerner), he shares the top staying pedigree of Monsun.

Another offering with a top pedigree was Lot 307 from Castledillon Stud. The son of Milan is a half-brother to Listed winner Lastbutnotleast (Flemensfirth), out of Grade 2 performer Lakil Princess. He will, presumably, be next seen on the point-to-point circuit, after selling to Monbeg Stables for €88,000.

At the end of the sale, the sires table was topped by the late Fame And Glory, while Grange Stud resident Milan sat in second. Leading sires Flemensfirth and Westerner were also represented, as was new boy Leading Light, who saw his first three-year-olds sell this year.
