Coolmore NH Sires Top Trade At Tattersalls Cheltenham

Coolmore NH sires led the way at the first Tattersalls Cheltenham Sale of the year, where Old Tom Morris (5g Getaway – Caheronaun, by Milan) topped trade at £150,000.

After signing for the Rob James-consigned sales topper, bloodstock agent Hamish Macauley said, “He’s the best horse in the sale, a really good-looking type.” The Getaway gelding had previously impressed at the store sales, where he fetched €75,000, and enhanced his value with a debut win at Turtulla earlier this month.

Tom Malone and Jamie Snowden teamed up to secure the next highest-priced lot of the sale, Colin Bowe’s Tinahely maiden winner Admiral Stewart (5g Soldier Of Fortune – Ivy Queen, by Green Desert), for £130,000. The sire was part of the appeal for Malone, as the agent explained, “I had a big winner by Soldier Of Fortune today in Kerryhill, so he hasn’t let me down so far. The horse is beautiful too, he was nearly an eighty grand store and they haven’t done too much to get him to win, and now we get to find out how good he really is.”

The aforementioned Kerryhill (Soldier Of Fortune) drew clear to win the Grade 2 River Don Novices' Hurdle at Doncaster, and will now be aimed at Aintree according to trainer Ruth Jefferson.
