Daughter Of Westerner Impresses In Listed Feature

Western Victory (6m Westerner - Zara’s Victory, by Old Vic) ran out an impressive winner of Friday’s Listed feature at Gowran Park to make it two from two this season.

The Declan Queally-trained mare was sent off favourite for the Listed Pat Walsh Memorial Mares Hurdle over two miles and made the running from the second flight. Challenged at the second last, she was driven to extend her advantage and stayed on well to win by seven lengths comfortably.

Winning rider Sean Flanagan commented after the race, “She did it really easily and has a big future on softer ground.”

Bred by Tim Conroy and owned by S O’Neill, Western Victory was adding to a Grade 3 placing last season and is now a three-time winner. She is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner and Grade 1 runner-up Tell Us More.
