Daughter Of Westerner Makes Smart Return To Action
Impressive point-to-point winner Look To The West (5m Westerner - Brotenstown, by Presenting) overcame a long absence to win the mares’ maiden hurdle at Navan on Sunday.
The daughter of Westerner was last seen winning a four-year-old mares’ maiden at Dromahane by 10 lengths for Michael Murphy and returned 19 months later to make her stable debut for Henry de Bromhead. Sent off joint-favourite under Rachael Blackmore, she made virtually all of the running and began to extend her advantage after the second last. Ridden from the final fence, she kept on well to deny fellow point winner Bioluminescence (Walk In The Park) by a length, with another seven lengths back to the third.
“Look To The West came to me well recommended,” Henry de Bromhead said after the race. “She had been working well and we hoped she would do something like that.”
On future plans, the trainer commented, “Maybe something like the Grade 3 Solerina Mares’ Hurdle at Fairyhouse in late January, but we'll see what everyone wants to do and enjoy today.”
Look To The West is owned by Robcour and was bred by Martin Dibbs.
