Daughter Of Yeats Draws Clear In Style

The Paul Nicholls-trained Sabrina (5m Yeats - En Vedette, by Astarabad) thoroughly impressed when winning Saturday’s Mares’ Bumper at Ascot by all of 13 lengths.

A promising second on debut in October, she was reunited with Harry Cobden to tackle heavy ground for the first time. Initially leading the field of eight, she was headed ten furlongs out, but regained the advantage approaching the final furlong. Ridden clear, success never looked in doubt as the favourite settled for a distant second.

Owned by the Owners Group 030, Sabrina was a €52,000 store purchase by Nicholls and Tom Malone. She was bred by Louis Vambeck and is closely-related to fellow bumper winner The Milan Girl (Milan).

Earlier in the day at Oldtown point-to-point, Timeless Beauty (5m Yeats - Love Divided, by King’s Ride) built on a promising debut to win the Mares Maiden for Sean Doyle.

Fourth on the first attempt last April, she was sent off favourite under JJ Scallan and led from the second last. Pushed out in the driving hail, she won by three lengths on the line. A trip to the sales ring is now on the agenda for the daughter of Yeats, who was bred by Mr Ciaran O’Toole
