Daughter Of Yeats Impresses On Bumper Debut

Jamie Codd steered Mount Ida (5m Yeats - Jolivia, by Dernier Emperor) to an impressive success in the two mile Mares’ Bumper at Wexford on Friday.

Bought by agent Aidan O’Ryan and current trainer Gordon Elliott after impressing in a point-to-point maiden for Jerry Cosgrave, she made her first start for owners KTDA Racing in a Punchestown maiden hurdle in February, when she finished a close second. Dropping down in trip on her bumper debut, she was sent off the short-priced favourite of 14 runners, of whom she was positioned in mid-division. Travelling well on the turn for home, she led after the two furlong marker and kept on well to score by seven and a half lengths, eased down.

Codd commented after the race, “She won her point-to-point at Fairyhouse and had a good run the last day against The Caddy Rose where the trip was probably plenty far for her at this stage. She is a nice filly and Gordon should have plenty of fun with her.”

Bred by Philip Hore, Mount Ida is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Sizing Tennessee and is a full-sister to Bargy Lady and Compadre, both multiple winners.
