Look To The West (Westerner) Wins The 4 YO Mares Maiden At Dromahane

Dromahane Winner Completes Impressive Double For Westerner

Look To The West (4m Westerner - Brotenstown, by Presenting) proved a smart prospect when drawing clear to win the four-year-old mares maiden at Dromahane.

Ridden to make all by Michael Sweeney, she boasted a six length lead by the penultimate fence and went on to win by ten lengths with ease, with a distance back to the remainder.

Michael Murphy clearly held his charge in high regard, having started her against geldings last month. The daughter of Westerner was bred by Martin Dibbs and provides important updates for her three-year-old and yearling full-brothers.

Shortly before that at Fairyhouse, Snake Oil (7g Westerner - Impulsive Ita, by Supreme Leader) justified favouritism in the two and a half mile maiden hurdle.

The Barry Connell owned and trained bay finished second last time out after a long lay-off and was partnered by Sean Flanagan for the first time on Sunday. Racing prominently throughout, he was pushed along from two out and kept on well on the run-in to beat Glenglass (Ocovango) by four lengths.

Speaking after the race, Connell commented, “He's a classy kind of horse and we've always liked him.”

Bred by Mr C Reaney, Snake Oil was bought by Gerry Hogan as a store for €64,000.
