Dual Gr.1 winner Kew Gardens retired
Kew Gardens has been retired from racing and will stand under the Coolmore N.H. banner next season. A Listed winner of Newmarket’s Zetland Stakes as a juvenile, the following season he landed the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris at Longchamp and the Group 1 St Leger Stakes at Doncaster and was crowned Champion 3-Year-Old Stayer in Europe.
On his final start as a four-year-old he took the notable scalp of leading stayer Stradivarius on British Champions Day at Ascot. “Kew Gardens is a big, good-looking horse, clear winded and an excellent mover,” said trainer Aidan O’Brien. “He has super mind and is extremely brave. He was a top-class middle-distance horse.”
A son of the incomparable Galileo out of Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes winner Chelsea Rose, Kew Gardens was bred by the world-renowned Barronstown Stud. He is an exciting addition to the Coolmore N.H. roster.
