First Crystal Ocean foals look the business!
This smashing colt from the first crop of World Champion Racehorse Crystal Ocean is out of Supreme Serata (Presenting). Delighted breeders Dan and Mags Melody have sent the mare back to Crystal Ocean who was last year’s busiest new stallion.
Ex Ireland football star Kevin Doyle is another fan of the young sire and is sending him a pair of Grade 1 winners this time; namely Augusta Kate (Yeats) and Le Bague Au Roi, who he purchased for £170,000 at the Goffs UK January. Augusta Kate was a top performer for Willie Mullins while Le Bague Au Roi won a pair of Grade 1 Novice Chases for Warren Greatrex defeating the boys on both occasions.
Already covered this year is Last Of The Bunch, dam of Grade 1 Cheltenham Champion Bumper heroine Relegate. Last Of The Bunch is owned by Bobby McCarthy as is Moskovite, a €160,000 purchase at Tattersalls Ireland November when in foal to Crystal Ocean and likely to return to him this year.
It’s no wonder Crystal Ocean is proving an obvious choice for breeders, given that he achieved the highest Timeform rating of European middle-distance horses in 2019. His seven Group race victories included Group 1 success in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes and contributed to total earnings of over €2.3million. Never out of the first three in 17 starts, Sir Michael Stoute said of his charge, “If you look at his record, it’s quite amazing. He has a lovely temperament and is a joy to train.”
The son of Sea The Stars boasts a pedigree to match his race record, as one of two Group 1 winners produced by Crystal Star, herself an unbeaten two-year-old.
