First Point Runner Continues Perfect Start By Ocovango
Ocovango’s very first runner between the flags in Ireland provided him with the perfect start, as the Colin Bowe-trained Glenglass (4g Ocovango - Funny Times, by Silver Patriarch) landed the Four-Year-Old Maiden at Tallow on Sunday.
The Robert McCarthy-bred chesnut faced seven rivals on debut, with conditions proving testing following the descent of Storm Ciara. He was produced late by Barry O’Neill, obliging to lead approaching the final fence and ran on to win by a length. "He's a horse with tonnes of raw ability and he showed a nice will to win there," said Bowe.
The sales ring now beckons for the imposing son of Ocovango, who was sold by Ballincurrig House Stud at the Derby Sale for €42,000. He is a half-brother to two black-type daughters of Flemensfirth, while his dam also has a three-year-old full-brother to Glenglass and a yearling brother by Soldier Of Fortune.
Glenglass continues an impressive strike rate by the first crop of Ocovango, who from just four runners, has also sired a Listed hurdle winner in Langer Dan and a three-time flat winner in La Shaba. A Group 2 winner and Group 1 placed himself, the son of Monsun commands €4,500 at the Beeches Stud this season.
