Flemensfirth bumper winner “is as good as we’ve had” - Lacey
Some high-class performers have passed through trainer Tom Lacey’s hands but he feels a son of Flemensfirth, who landed the concluding bumper at Ascot on Saturday, could be the best of all.
Hazzaar (4g Flemensfirth-Una Sorpresa, by Banyumanik) was sent off 9/4 favourite for his racecourse debut and cruised home by two lengths from some well-touted rivals.
“I was as optimistic about him as you can be with any horse,” said Lacey. “He’s always been impressive at home, but we’ve had plenty of those and they haven’t delivered at the track.
“He’s as good as we’ve had and is up there with Sebastopol - he’s just a proper horse.”
Hazzaar was bred by Alphonsie O’Brien.
