Flemensfirth mare is G3 Jewel

Jennies Jewel (7m Flemensfirth-Fishin Joella, by Gone Fishin), who finished second in G1 company at this year’s Punchestown Festival, gained a well-deserved first Graded victory at Clonmel on Thursday. The Flemensfirth mare faced strong opposition in the G3 EBF T A Morris Memorial Mares Chase but took the two and a half mile contest by four and a half lengths. She had finished runner-up to Annie Power in the G1 Mares Champion Hurdle at Punchestown in May and connections look set to seek further black-type. Trainer Jarlath Fahey told irishracing.com: ”That was a very good performance and she has more than earned her Graded win. She had a lovely run here first time over fences recently and we did plenty of schooling with her since. “Originally we were only toying with the idea of briefly going chasing with her as she is a valuable mare but we’ll have to rethink that now and could run in those mares’ chases.” Jennies Jewel was bred by E Sexton, C Bailey and N McIntyre.
