Flemensfirth Mare Wins On Debut For Bowe
The Colin Bowe-trained Cool Dove (5m Flemensfirth - Lonesome Dove, by Milan) made a winning debut in the Five-Year-Old Mares Maiden at Cragmore on Sunday.
Bred by Cathal Mariga and owned by Maurice Mariga, the bay mare was ridden to chase the leader by Barry O’Neill and progressed to dispute the lead before the second last fence. Asserting soon after, she produced an impressive leap at the last and showed a game attitude to hold off a challenge by the more experienced Seangoell. The winning distance was a length and a half, with a further four lengths back to the favourite Bella Ballerina (Yeats).
Bred out of the maiden hurdle and bumper winner Lonesome Dove (Milan), Cool Dove’s full-sister sold for €140,000 at last year’s Derby Sale at Tattersalls Ireland. Another Milan mare sent to Flemensfirth was Millys Gesture, a mating which produced the Grade 1 Drinmore Novice Chase winner Coney Island.
