G1 target for Flemensfirth son Foxrock
Connections are targeting the G1 Hennessy Gold Cup back at Leopardstown next month with Foxrock (7g Flemensfirth-Midnight Light, by Roselier) following the seven-year-old’s victory in the Grade A Boylesports Handicap Chase on Sunday.
The Flemensfirth gelding, bred by Geoffrey Thompson, carried joint top-weight of 11st 7lb to a five-length victory, justifying the high opinion in which owner Barry Connell and trainer Ted Walsh hold the horse.
“He has plenty of gears and the drop back to 2m 5f wasn´t really an issue. He winged the last and really sprinted away from it. He´s probably entitled to have a go at the Hennessy. He´s a progressive second-season novice and the dream is still alive,” Connell told the Racing Post. The owner had waited to find a good enough horse to name after the Dublin suburb in which Leopardstown is based.
Walsh added: “He quickened up well after the last and ran to the line. He jumped a bit high early on. He´s only seven and will improve. He´s finished in handicaps and if he´s fresh and well he might run in the Hennessy or maybe the Bobbyjo, those type of races.”
