G2 seals week Westerner will Never Forget
Two days after, he was responsible for a record-breaking €325,000 store horse at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale, the red-hot Westerner enjoyed a G2 success on the Flat at Saint-Cloud on Sunday.
The Elie Lellouche-trained Never Forget (3f Westerner-Topira, by Pistolet Bleu) had won a Longchamp Listed event over 11 furlongs in May and she took the lead in Sunday’s mile-and-a-half G2 Prix de Malleret to come home three-quarters of a length clear of her rivals.
The Westerner filly’s owner Claude Cohen, who bred her jointly with Lellouche, is now dreaming of G1 victory.
“I have bred most of the family, and my dream is to run in the G1 Prix Vermeille (at Longchamp on September 12), so hopefully that’s where we’ll head,” Cohen told TDN.
Lellouche added: “She is very brave, and last time in the Prix de Royaumont, they went a very fast pace and on the uphill finish she found a mile and a half too far. Today, on this flat track, she found the distance much more in her range and was very brave again.”
