Game Son Of Westerner Off The Mark In Bumper
The Story So Far (5g Westerner – Lady Taipan, by Taipan) dug deep to get off the mark in Thursday’s bumper at Limerick.
The Charles Byrnes-trained five-year-old finished a promising third on debut last month and went one better next time out. Stepping up to two miles and two furlongs on Thursday, he raced in second for much of the way and was asked to quicken from two furlongs out. Ridden inside the final furlong, he rallied to lead close home and scored by three parts of length under Ray Barron.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “He is an out-and-out three-miler so it was a bonus to win a bumper. He is a very nice horse, we bought him as a foal and he'll probably go jumping a hurdle now.”
The promising son of Westerner was bred by James Giles.
