German Derby winner In Swoop to stand at Coolmore
Last season’s German Derby winner and ‘Arc’ runner-up In Swoop has been acquired to stand under the Coolmore National Hunt banner.
“In Swoop is the 19th German Derby winner owned and bred by the Von Ullmann family who also bred and raced both his German Derby-winning sire and German Oaks-winning dam,” said Coolmore’s Joe Hernon who negotiated the purchase. “He’s a striking horse from one of Europe’s leading farms and was rated the best 3-year-old of his generation over a mile and a half. The Von Ullmann family also provided us with Getaway who has proven a resounding success with Irish breeders and we are very grateful to them.”
Trained in France by Francis Graffard, In Swoop won the Group 1 German Derby on only his third start. On his next outing he was runner-up to Mogul in the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris before putting up a career best performance when a neck second to Sottsass in the ‘Arc’. In Swoop won two more Group races in France this season and was sent off favourite for the Group 1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud last month where he suffered a career-ending injury.
The best son of leading sire Adlerflug who sadly passed away earlier this year, In Swoop is out of German Oaks winner Iota and is a full-brother to German Group 1 winner Ito. Adlerflug’s other leading performers in 2021 include Alenquer, winner of the Group 2 King Edward VII Stakes at Royal Ascot for William Haggas and runner-up in last week’s Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes at York.
