Getaway Mare Adds Listed Win To Unbeaten Hurdle Record
Queens Gamble (5m Getaway – Gambling Girl, by Hawk Wing) extended her unbeaten record over hurdles when justifying favouritism in the Listed Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Taunton.
The daughter of Getaway proved her talents when bolting up in a Listed mares’ bumper at Cheltenham and ended last season with a winning hurdle debut. Successful on last month’s seasonal return, she was reunited with Jonathan Burke on Saturday and travelled strongly throughout the two mile contest. She improved to join the leader at the second last and led on the run-in, keeping on to win by two lengths and three quarters.
“I was very happy with her performance,” winning trainer Harry Derham said after the race. “I’d imagine she will go straight to Cheltenham. She's a dual winner round the track in bumpers and I don't think she needs to run again, but I'll speak to her owners to confirm that.”
Owned by A Frost and E Galvin, Queens Gamble has now won five of her seven career starts. She was bred by Ardmulchan Stud out of Gambling Girl, whose three-year-old Getaway filly sold for €80,000 earlier this year.
