Getaway Mare Makes Smart Start Over Hurdles
Smiling Getaway (6m Getaway - One More Cookie, by Old Vic) made a winning start for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Ludlow on Wednesday.
Owners James and Jean Potter purchased the Getaway mare for £235,000 following her impressive debut win for Donnchadh Doyle in a four-year-old mares’ maiden at Loughanmore. She raced over two miles and five furlongs on Wednesday’s hurdle debut and was ridden to dispute the lead by Sam Twiston-Davies. Asserting from four out, she was pushed along at the next and held a clear advantage at the final flight. Ridden out on the run-in, she kept on to beat the favourite Between Waters (Walk In The Park) by two and a half lengths, with the pair finishing 11 lengths clear of the third.
Bred by Rowland Crellin, Smiling Getaway is the sole winner to date out of One More Cookie.
