Grade 2 Aim For Son Of Yeats After Second Hurdle Success

A step up in class is on the cards for Young Buck (7g Yeats - Pepsi Starlet, by Heavenly Manna) after Paul Nicholls’ charge gained his second win over hurdles on Friday.

The son of Yeats was sent off favourite for the Novice Hurdle at Chepstow with a maiden hurdle success to his name, along with two placings from his other two starts under rules. He raced prominently throughout under Harry Cobden and gained a clear advantage from three out, before being shaken up at the second last. Soon clear, he was always doing enough to hold off Cap St Vincent, prevailing by two lengths on the line.

After the race, assistant trainer Harry Derham said, “This place probably suits Young Buck better than Hereford as it's all about staying and that's very much what he's about. He'll go chasing next season, but we'll consider a Grade 2 three mile novice hurdle at Haydock in two weeks.”

Young Buck displayed a liking for fences when winning at Nenagh on his sole start for John Joseph Hanlon and now runs in the colours of the Stewart Family after selling for £150,000. The son of Yeats was bred by Robert Guiry and is a half-brother to Grade 3 chase winner Queens Wild (Westerner).
